Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the ‘Effect of transplanting dates on seed yield and quality of broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica L.)’. The experiment was carried out at Research block and Seed Testing Laboratory of Department of Seed Science and Technology. In the present investigation 30 day old seedlings were transplanted on five different dates from 30th September to 09 October with ten days interval were taken as treatments. The present study showed that the plant transplanted on 30th September observed maximum days to maturity (228.80), plant height (82.30 cm), seed yield (565.33 kg/ha) and diameter of siliqua (3.20 mm). The number of primary branches per plant (22.12), number of secondary branches per plant (62.04), siliqua per plant (1651.72) and length of siliqua (6.03 cm) recorded maximum on 10th October date of transplanting. The standard germination (91.00%), seedling length (11.59 cm), seedling moisture content (0.504 g), 1000seed weight (5.86 g), vigour index-I (1054.68) and vigour index-ÉÉ (2.585) reported maximum on 30th September date of transplanting and minimum in case of 9th November date of transplanting.
