Abstract

Disease are recognized as one of the major constraint tosustainable aquaculture activity whichcanhamper the production and results in heavy economic loss. In aquaculture practices many chemotherapeutic agents are traditionally used in treatment and prevention of diseases of aquatic husbandry animals but they are not recommended as they develop antibiotic resistant against bacteria, environmental pollution and bioaccumulation in the tissue of aquatic animals. Many scientist put efforts to exploit medicinal plants in developing alternative dietary supplements that enhancesgrowth performance and health and immune system of cultured fish, as these products are inexpensive, safer, effective, biodegradable, can easily be prepared and biocompatible with the aquatic organism. It is an attempt to discuss the findings of different workers related to the Invitro and Invivo application of herbs and medicinal plant extracts or their combination in relation to antimicrobial, immunostimulant, antiparasitic, growth promoter in aquatic animal husbandry animals.
