Abstract Zoonotic diseases are those diseases or infections which transmit from vertebrate animals to humans and posses a great threat to human population all around the world. Some of the infectious diseases can cross boundaries and affect different countries at a time in a single outbreak. Furthermore, the modern world is keen about uplifting the standard of living by use of advanced technologies but, there is a need to disseminate knowledge regarding the basic concepts of some of the important zoonotic diseases. Tularemia is one such fatal zoonotic disease which is caused by a bacteria Francisella tularensis. So far, limited specific investigations have been made into diagnostics and therapeutics of tularemia in veterinary medicine. The disease is of great public health significance.
