Abstract

The higher GCV and PCV were observed for productive tillers per plant, grain yield per plant, plant height and grains per ear. The characters days to 50% flowering, plant height, productive tillers per plant and grains per ear expressed high heritability (BS) accompanied with high genetic advance. There was highly significant positive association of grain yield with plant height, days to 50% flowering, productive tillers and grain weight per ear. The number of grains per ear (0.947) and grain weight per ear (0.757) had the highest direct effect on grain yield. Plant height, productive tillers, length of spike, grains per ear and 1000 grain weight are very important yield contributing characters and should be given more emphasis during selection.
