Abstract

The present study was conducted to elucidate quantitative detection of anti-rabies antibodies in 16 unvaccinated dogs clinically suspected for rabies by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) using PLATELIA™ Rabies II kit ad usum Veterinarium. Out of 16 dogs, 9 (56.25%) revealed antibody titre ranging from 0.15 to 0.30 IU/μl. None of the unvaccinated dogs showed protective rabies specific antibody titre above 0.5 IU/μl by ELISA. It was concluded that quantitative detection of anti-rabies antibodies by ELISA can be used as a significant indication of rabies infection in animals. Anti-rabies antibody titre gradually decreasedwith progression of disease.
