Plants used for jaundice among the ethnic people of north Tripura district (Tripura), Northeast India

Abstract

A large number of diverse groups of ethnic communities residing in North Tripura District in Tripura, North-East India. The aim of the study was to records the herbal preparation used for jaundice remedies by the different ethnics communities and the pharmacological relevance of the recorded plants. The ethno-botanical survey was conducted during December 2018 to August 2019 among the ethnic population residing in North Tripura Districts in Tripura, India and information were collected by taking an open interview using a semi-structured questionnaires about the plants used by the traditional healers for jaundices treatment. Obtained data were analyzed through fidelity level (FL) to validate the uniqueness of the medicinal plants being used for jaundices treatment. In our study, a total 43 species from 33 families are used by the healers who utilize the plant to manage jaundice from this district of Tripura, NE India. FL values of plants-based remedies of jaundices for the selected study area ranges between 9.09% to 100%. Among these43 collected plants, 15plant species have significant (<50%) FL values.
