Abstract Emotional intelligence is emerging as a critical factor for sustaining high achievement, positive behaviour and retention for the school going students. The purpose of the research is to study the Emotional Intelligence of Science and Arts Group Students at XI standard level in Government Schools in Coimbatore District. The total of 524 students of XI standard (Boys=264 and Girls=260) of various Government Higher Secondary Schools in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu were selected as a sample through stratified random sampling technique for the purpose of the Study. Among them 367 students from Science Group and 157 students from Arts Group were selected. To test the hypotheses r-test and t-test were used. Results of this study indicated that Science Group Students were better than that of Arts Group Students of XI standard in respect of Emotional Intelligence in Government Schools in Coimbatore District.
