Traceability in Food Process Industry: A Review

Abstract

Traceability is a technology that enables tracking of a food products throughout the supply chain from raw material suppliers to final consumers. Good traceability systems help to minimize the production and distribution of unsafe or poor quality products. The food traceability market is growing with the increasing awareness about food safety among the consumers. Now a days consumers are demanding comprehensive information and transparency about the food products. Governments are implementing strict rules and regulations to track food as it is directly impacting consumer health. Traceability is applied as a tool to assist in the assurance of food safety and quality as well as to achieve consumer confidence. The main limitation in this market is the extra cost involved in the traceability equipment. The market has been growing significantly over the last five years due to its increasing use in various applications in the food & beverage industry.
