Abstract

Three Bikaneri camels with chronic illness and weak body condition were received for post mortem examination in the Department of Veterinary Pathology from Border Security Force, Barmer, Rajasthan, India. Gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) and Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in all camels were increased. Gross necropsy findings were diffuse hemorrhagic tracheitis, mild to moderate pleuritis, granulomatous pneumonia and granulomatous lymphadenitis in mediastinal lymph nodes. White to gray, firm, multilobulated, multifocally mineralized, granulomatous mass were found on right and left lobes of lung parenchyma. Mediastinal lymph nodes revealed mild to severe enlargement with multifocal mineralization and firm granulomatous mass. Histopathologically, infiltration of mononuclear inflammatory cells and RBCs were found in trachea and larynx. Lungs and mediastinal lymph nodes showed typical granulomatous inflammation. Pink coloured acid-fast bacilli arranged in clumps/bunch were found in lung tissue section stained by Ziehl-Neelsen staining. Further, 16S rRNA amplicons sequencing was used for molecular characterization of different Mycobacterium spp.
