Online Published on 14 December, 2023. Abstract Supervised field trials were performed to assess the persistence and risk assessment of thiamethoxam in brinjal and tomato. After the third spray, brinjal and tomato samples were separately collected from treated and untreated control plots at various intervals. The brinjal and tomato samples were processed following the modified QuEChERS technique and analyzed through UHPLC. The average initial deposits of thiamethoxam on brinjal after the third spray at 50 and 100 g ai ha-1 were 0.42 and 0.78 mg kg-1, whereas on tomato residues were 0.47 and 0.85 mg kg-1, respectively. At the single dose, thiamethoxam residue dissipated to <LOQ (0.05 mg kg-1) after seven days in brinjal and five days in tomato after the last application. For risk assessment of thiamethoxam on brinjal and tomato, the TMRC was calculated and compared with MPI. The results showed that the TMRC value was below MPI in all the sampling days for both dosages. The study suggested a minimum waiting period of two days for safe consumption of brinjal and tomato when applied with thiamethoxam at the approved dose.
