Online Published on 22 August, 2023. Abstract Molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of West Bengal isolate of Explanatum explanatum was performed using ITS2 marker. Adult paramphistomes were collected from the bile ducts and liver of naturally infected cattle slaughtered at Tangra, Kolkata, West-Bengal, India. Three of these paramphistomes were arbitrarily chosen for molecular studies. Molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis were done by pairwise sequence analysis, multiple sequence analysis, phylogenetic tree using standard software. Sequence analysis of E. explanatum exhibited 100% similarity with sequence of E. explanatum retrieved from NCBI data base (MK156397). Multiple sequence analysis of E. explanatum of the present study exhibited only one nucleotide sequence variation. This is the first report of molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of West Bengal isolate of E. explanatum of India.
