Physical and Thermal Properties of Briquette Made from Rice Husk and Saw Dust

Abstract

In this study the raw materials like rice husk and saw dust was densified into briquettes at high temperature and pressure. Moreover it deals with physical and thermal properties of biomass briquette made from rice husk and saw dust. In proximate analysis of briquettes, moisture content of rice husk and saw dust was found to be 4.43 and 5.60 percent, volatile matter of rice husk and saw dust briquette was found to be 72.34 and 70.18 percent, ash content of rice husk and saw dust briquette was found to be 9.64 and 10.74 percent, fixed carbon of rice husk and saw dust briquette wasfound to be 13.59 and 13.14 percent and also the angle of repose of rice husk briquette was found to be 390 and that of saw dust briquette was 370. After briquetting, bulk density of rice husk briquette was found to be 992 kg/m3 and that of saw dust briquette was 1117 kg/m3 respectively. Calorific value of rice husk briquette was found to be 3401 kcal/kg and that of saw dust briquette was 3707 kcal/kg. Shatter resistance of rice husk briquette was found to be 93.89 percent and that of saw dust briquette was 94.46 percent respectively. Tumbler resistance of rice husk briquette was found to be 95.45 percent and that of saw dust briquette was 96.19 percent. Resistance to water penetration of rice husk briquette was observed to be 93.56 percent and that of saw dust briquette was 94.16 percent respectively.
