Line design approach for spotting of towers and finding optimum use of leg extension in challenging hilly/mountainous himalayan terrain Biswas Hillol1, Kumar M Manoj2 1Advisor (TL), Wapcos Limited, New Delhi 2Addl. Chief Engineer (Power), Wapcos Limited, New Delhi Online published on 6 February, 2020. Abstract The paper intended to describe the challenge of spotting of towers on uneven ground for drawing an overhead transmission line in Himalayan mountainous terrain and the requirement of addressing the design-construction interface by extended use of desktop design with actual ground profile with the use of software. A Line design concept inter alia realistically spotting of towers have been attempted to study the adequacy of standard design of towers using survey data to simulate an overhead transmission line in Himalayan terrain for studying the use of leg extensions and the their differential thereof with respect to XYZ data obtained from conventional surveying using Total station/DGPS/ground based Lidar, thereafter TIN modelling of ground profile thereof and the findings briefly being presented here.
