Online Published on 18 June, 2024. Abstract Natural or anthropogenic disasters inflict significant devastation upon both society and the environment, which resulted in enduring impacts. Effective disaster management expertise has become essential for the mitigation of the adverse effects of disasters on communities and businesses. The tourism industry, a significant carbon emitter, has exacerbated the climate crisis, leading to health emergencies such as heat-related illnesses and infectious diseases. These challenges can be addressed by prioritizing, sustainable practices in travel and tourism, including promoting eco-friendly transportation and energy-efficient hospitality. Additionally, enhancing disaster preparedness and response mechanisms has become essential, which involved investment in early warning systems, resilient infrastructure, and community engagement. Adoption of holistic approaches that integrate environmental sustainability, public health, and disaster management strategies, mitigated the far-reaching consequences of disasters and built resilience for a sustainable future. The present review was aimed at providing insights for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to enhance disaster management strategies and safeguard against the devastating impacts of man-made disasters.
