Price spread of cultured fish in Meghalaya: A case study in east Khasi hills district

Abstract

An efficient marketing system is one of the most important characteristics for the development of any economy. The study tries to analyse the marketing channel and price spread of fish in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. A sample of 30 numbers of fish farmers and 30 numbers of different intermediaries were taken into consideration for this research. A standard analytical technique has been employed to analyse the data to draw inferences from the results. Four marketing channels were identified from the study area. The findings of the paper show that the wholesaler earned a huge profit which was higher than the profit earned by the fish farmers. Price spread was observed to be more in the marketing channe l-4 and it was the most preferred marketing channel in East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya.
