Abstract

The quality of education plays a significant role in the development of human resource which in turn depends on the effective teaching-learning situation. The study conducted on a random sample of 142 students revealed that the relationship between the teacher and the taught ranged good to very good (63.37%). Practical-oriented teaching with more emphasis on extra-curricular activities followed by cordial relationships between teachers and students along with job-oriented competitive syllabus etc were found to be the prominent factors for effective teachinglearning situation. Fast or rapid delivery of lectures by the instructors, more emphasis on theory than practical, huge class size, hesitation/inferiority complex among the students, inadequate knowledge and partial attitude of the instructors were some of the main constraints perceived by the respondents. The study implies that more emphasis should be given on practical aspects and on overall personality development of the students besides creating congenial environment in the classroom.
