Social Capital and its Intangible Gains - A Review Dua Yesha Seth, Research Scholar, Dr. Tandon Deepak, Professor International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi, India Online published on 15 April, 2014. Abstract The purpose of the paper is to understand and to try an answer the question: Does social capital benefits an entrepreneurial firm at every stage of the lifecycle of the firm? The paper explicitly lists the benefits of social capital throughout the lifecycle of an enterprise. Literature supports the view that an entrepreneur uses and relies on his/her social capital embedded in his networks from the early start of a firm till the maturity, decline stage of an enterprise. The paper highlights all those types of social capital which the entrepreneur uses to run his firm, sell his products/services, make profits from this endeavor. Research in the past shows the prevalence of social capital across and various stages of entrepreneurial lifecycle. The impact is positive at various stages of the firm; it proves to be beneficial at every organizational stage. The positive aspects of network relationships of social capital have properly received significant research attention, yet the negative aspects, which arguably have an even larger impact on socio emotional & task outcomes in organization, remain relatively neglected (Parkhe, Wasserman & Ralston, 2006).
